Greetings from the land of germs

(So it appears my blog ate my homework. I thought I published a question-and-answer style recap of 2013 but it has disappeared. It probably wasn't hugely interesting so let's carry on.)

Welcome to 2014,
which so far has brought us a wonderful visit from my parents,
a nifty week where I took all three kids to the library and the weekly early-years activity centre
(aren't I energetic? And field-trip-oriented?)
and a wee gathering at our home involving a mere 19 kids or so.

And then... this.

A stomach bug which emerged on Sunday right after the guests left

and knocked each one of us out
one by one.

(Minus the baby. Breast milk knocks her out, but in the good sleepy way.)

(Noah on his name day, still sick but insisting we eat our dinner off china plates. He let go of his dream of tortiere and settled on pancakes with blueberries and whipped cream, and bacon too. Always bacon.)

(We built a fort under the dining room table
for the 30 minute interval we could stand getting off the couch)

We are not over it yet and it has been a full week of misery and germs.
The fact that I haven't lost my mind is already an accomplishment.

I strongly felt the Holy Spirit say to me a few weeks ago that my Word for the year is
"Cease striving and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10).
It has been confirmed in many ways since then.

This was the most clear practical confirmation, however.

A sick mother looking after two sick boys
and a tiny baby,
when her husband is sick too
and is working one of the busiest weeks of the year at his job,
and just got new work responsibilities tacking on extra hours to his day?

Nothing says 'let go of your perfectionism' more than that!

  1. This post seems like you cut and paste my February posts from the last four years! Except that marriage prep was always thrown in there. These sorts of times are trying but very refining and a new outlook emerges when they finally end. Prayers.
