How to lose your mind

Ever wanted to test your patience, sanity and ability to love your husband and children despite all sorts of weird circumstances? No? Clever you. I, however, appear to enjoy walking on the wild side. My current plan, which you are welcome to modify to your own life as needed, is as follows: 1) Lose your water pressure. In fact, better yet, have your well run dry, which appears to be our dilemma. (This, however, makes no sense given how it has rained pretty consistently all spring and summer.) But in any case, this means a) no dishwasher b) not being able to do laundry until it's fixed (. . . !) 2) Have a newborn. Y'know, to feel sleep deprived and all. 3) Take said newborn AND a two-year old on a road trip from Nova Scotia to Ontario. What would normally be about 16 hours of driving suddenly becomes much, much more. 4) When you arrive at your destination, be sure to stay for a whole week at a camp without electricity or running water. Our weekend

Image
First of all, I must quote something I stumbled upon tonight that amused me to no end. "Blogging is entirely about validation: your kids are so cute, your partner is so smart, your food is so delicious, your photos are so beautiful, your lifestyle is so inspiring, your writing is so eloquent, your projects are so creative, blah blah friggin' blah. Hey, I'm not above it. I need the validation, too."from chicken tender Hey folks, I'm not above it either! I can wax poetic about how 'blogging allows me to reflect on the beauty of my vocation' (true) and 'it's a way to reach out and build community' (also true) but sometimes, I'm just narcissistic enough, or bored enough, to use the Internet to be validated by my far-flung family and friends. There, I admitted it. I don't even think I am ashamed of that. Okay, enough of that. Here are a few snapshots of what our weekend was like: Saturday morning: This is a dreadful photo. (Sorry to my hubby...

Rethinking those high hopes

Image
There are some things I am committed to as a wife and mother, and I stick to them unwaveringly. There are lots of things I stay basically committed to, but let slide now and then. And there are some high hopes of mine I simply have let go of completely, at least temporarily. Respectively, I am still committed to a t.v.-free life for our kids, at least for now. (To clarify, Noah has seen some t.v. at his grandparents' house, and I did let him watch the opening five minutes of the BBC Pride and Prejudice movie once when I needed to run to the bathroom with morning sickness. But other than that, he's never watched t.v.) I am basically committed to cloth diapers, but I am forgiving myself when that slides lately. I have two wee ones in cloth. I am convinced it's understandable when I'm not on top of it, and that that's perfectly okay. But my great expectations of growing a garden this summer? Gone. We bought lovely heirloom seeds from an industrious eighteen-year old h...

Because he's oh-so-cute

I realized that I have been seriously negligent in posting pictures of Isaiah. A few of my readers don't use Facebook where I tend to upload more pictures. (For shunning this rather addictive social networking site, I salute you. I am becoming increasingly aware of how overly attached to it I am, and I am currently trying to discern whether I should scale back, or quit altogether.) Thus, they haven't seen many photos of Sir Cuteness. So without further ado, Isaiah: Two days old Three weeks old Six weeks old And, if you can believe it, he just keeps getting cuter! Life is good.
