Pay it forward: A giveaway

It's February, generally the hardest month of the year for me. This year I planned ahead for it somewhat: I took January off, I am taking my physical health to heart and implementing a few small but necessary changes to keep myself well, and I got rid of some major clutter in January so I wouldn't be feeling so cagey in my own home.

And so far, this has been my best February yet.

But there is one thing lacking. As much as these various ways of looking after myself were, are, crucial, I want to do something for someone else (well, besides the three fellows I look after). I want to brighten someone else's day.

So. . .

I am hosting a little giveaway.

Don't look so shocked, Lucy, I said so in the title of this post!

I figure most people like getting things in the mail, and most people like books, so go on and check out my book recommendations and pick the one that interests you. Tell me which one you want in the comments and I'll enter you into a draw.

Second prize:
A copy of Practicing the Presence of God

First prize:
A copy of Practicing the Presence of God and the book of your choice from the remaining three!

Go ahead and choose the one that most interests you, post your comment here, and wait (im)patiently for the exciting results :)

(I will be drawing on February 10, so be sure to comment by then if you are interested.)

This is just my little way of thanking you for reading my quirky thoughts,
while simultaneously bringing a little joy to you via Canada Post.

  1. Ten ways to destroy your child's imagination sounds really good.

  2. I am most interested in the Esolen book as I have read several summaries of it but never the book itself. I think that I have been too scared to actually read it! And, no to the Senior book as the man has obviously never jogged and felt how strangely exhilarating it is to use one's body in an activity other than gardening!;) Has he never seen Chariots of Fire... And I have decided to handle February by making it the new March. I was inspired to do this by my neighbour who is 70 and lived her whole life in this climate. I remarked to her that once February is over we can all hope for Spring. She responded that January is the month that we really need to get through. Somehow that one remark has changed everything; it has made February into not so much a month as a collection of weeks.

  3. All those books sound great Jenna! We have Happy Are You Poor and I also highly recommend it. I would say I am most interested in the Christian Culture one. Sounds intriguing :)

  4. I was just reshelving books the other day and spotted John Senior's book awaiting another read. Thanks for the reminder to pull it out again. I think you know we're fans of Happy Are You Poor (probably the most necessary book for all OLSWA faculty families). But I would LOVE to read the Esolen book as well! I looked it up on Amazon last night hoping I hadn't destroyed my children's imagination yet...ha, ha.

Thanks for the giveaway! If I ever blog again I will pay it forward, but I'm thinking things are going to be silent for a while yet.

    1. Well you are welcome to pay it forward, but what I was referring to was ME paying "it" (the unusual February joy) forward.

  5. I'd be happy to receive any of these. I guess I'll say "Happy Are You Poor" for my choice. Because we're definitely poor, but perhaps not so happy about it. But if I win, you could just hang onto them until we find out whether we're going back to N.S. this Spring or not. And permanently or not.

Also, I'm not sure if it's my own thought, or a quote, but what comes to mind when I think of jogging is "Jogging is a waste of a perfectly good set of knees."

  6. I would love the "Ten Ways to Destroy Your Child's Imagination" if I win!

  7. I'm glad that February is treating you well this year! :) Winter is absolutely my least favorite season but this year it is flying by and I assume it's because the days all blur together when there is a newborn in the house. I would really like to read 'Happy Are You Poor' mostly because I had the same line of questioning you did before being married and I think it would make for great Lenten reading. Thanks!

  10. Free books! This is great, if I win I could just keep your own copy of Happy are you Poor, which to my shame I have kept putting off reading after the first few chapters... unless you want your underlines back that is. I should probably return it if someone else wins it though :P I thought I was making you guys happier by keeping you poor of this book, but it sounds like perhaps you have multiple copies to deal with pesky thieving book friends like us?

  11. Oh Jenna, you are such a dear! Your analysis of your close friends made me want to acquire and read all of them. But I think the one that most interests me is Esolen!

  12. Jenna! You're such a sweetheart giving away books! Practicing the Presence of God is such a great book! I'm glad you recommended it, and the Esolen book has been on my to-read list forever!
