In case you were wondering...

We are alive.

More than that, we are so very content. We arrived in the little town that is our new home, and will be moving into the home we hoped and prayed could be ours, in just a week.

We have already been met with warm welcomes, a bottle of wine, and a box of pantry items. (Thoughtful friends give you Saran Wrap and all-purpose cleaner when you're moving, for your information. They have both proven to be imminently useful.)

We faced what seemed like many setbacks getting here -- our initial offer not going through on our house, our van breaking down in rural Quebec, among others -- but we are here, and so happy.

We had our first glimpse of Baby Lemon this week via ultrasound. Imagine our surprise and delight when we discovered the hospital here allows women to bring three guests in to watch! Noah, Isaiah, and Patrick all got to meet our very active, sweet little baby, who did his or her darndest to allude the technician's efforts for a clear images.

She also inadvertently dropped a male pronoun when referring to Baby Lemon... just as Mamaluia had expected, I am the Maker of Many Boys. I see them all shuffling around in cassocks and surplices in only a short few years.

It was Noah's dream come true to be allowed to witness the ultrasound, as he was devastated when he was told that he wouldn't be able to come watch at the IWK in Halifax. So fierce was his sense of injustice that I had to think of a way to channel it, so I suggested he write a Letter to the Editor. For the most part, it was with his own hand that he diligently wrote out what I thought was remarkably articulate and convincing, only to have them never publish it!

Sweetly enough, though, as we walked out of the hospital after my appointment, he told me the Editor must have sent the hospital a copy of his letter, so that was why he got his wish!

Having not yet moved into our home, we are feeling somewhat unsettled. I have been mentally decorating and repainting the space for weeks and weeks; now to just get in and get 'er done! I can hardly wait. Also, we will finally have space for a real dining room table and chairs, a first for our family.

We have no Internet until next week, so I have been getting a few minutes here and there to check my email at the local college's library. It's not exactly recreational as one of my kids, usually Isaiah, makes a run for something forbidden as I try and read a quick email.

Expect more blogging when I actually move in.

I am currently in my favourite stage of pregnancy. The hardship of morning sickness and perpetual fatigue have eased off, and now I can actually feel aware and grateful of being pregnant. I have felt more bonded to the baby, and more spiritually of his (or her) presence since our ultrasound. I love this miraculous feeling.

  1. YAY!! Welcome!! I totally hear you on the wanting to get in and get 'er done. We move at the end of June and I just. want. to. get. in. there.

But at the same time I'm not packed yet. Such a conundrum.

  2. We are so glad you have arrived home. I was still here when you popped in yesterday. I only realised that you had come as you pulled out of the driveway.

  3. So happy to hear about the ultrasound. Our kids got to come in for the big gender reveal with Annika and it was pretty amazing (although the boys were a bit disappointed at being outnumbered). Still, I'm thankful our little hospital here allows for family in the room. Welcome to the Bay, with all its quirks and craziness!

  4. I'm so happy everything went well with the big move and the big bundle of joy who's growing to his little hearts content! I'm so behind in reading your blog, but you're now in my feedly so I'll be up to date!
And I want pictures of you new house in the Bay!
    Lots of love!
