The thing that is blogging
I am really struggling with this business of blogging. I have yet to find my 'voice' as a blogger so I never know what to write about when I sit down at the computer, but more importantly, I don't know how to word it. Who is blogger Jenna? Is she someone who writes about her cooking, crafting and other domestic triumphs? Or does she get more raw and discuss where she is going wrong in these areas? How much information about my family is relevant? Interesting? What ought I write about?
Also, I find myself questioning my whole pursuit as a blogger, because honestly, I'm discouraged by the lack of comments. I think, if I wanted this to be only about me and for me, I'd keep a journal.
And I wonder if writing about my life in an attempt to reflect on it's simple joys should be public.
So I am asking you today, why do you blog? And, if you have a reason, why should I?

well..i don't blog...yet...but i think i will eventually...i just haven't gotten to it at the moment...
ReplyDeletebut one reason why you you should blog is that every day i come home from work, i sit and chat with panders for a while, maybe have some tea. eventually, he goes to make dinner (rarely is it me) and then i spend some time doing my daily internet perusal...and every single day without fail i check your blog :) no lie :) often, andrew looks over my shoulder and says, i wish jenna posted more :D so...you've got two big fans who could definitely do with more jenna in their life..and for what it's worth, I'd love it blogger jenna had snippets of every aspect of jenna, mommy jenna, wife jenna, friend jenna, sister/daughter jenna, seamstress jenna, baker jenna, homemaker jenna, funny jenna, confused jenna, contemplative jenna...the list goes on, and i'm a fan of all :)
I totally agree with Sorcha's "wish list" for your blog. I think that your experiences can be interesting and inspiring, cute and sweet, or challenging and up-building. I want it all, dear sister. I want. it. all. :)
ReplyDeleteI blog because for me, it's an outlet. One of my struggles with staying at home full-time is feeling like I'm not "putting anything out there" into the world. I know it's silly, but blogging helps me feel like I'm contributing *something* to the world outside my door.
I check your blog often too, and wish you posted more:) I don't blog, mostly because I'm not sure if I have anything of interest to say. But I think you do!
ReplyDeleteYou can count me among the people who check your blog regularly! You write so beautifully and it is always a delight when I see you've posted something new. I would miss you if you left the blogging world :( I want to know all about you and your Catholic family life :)
ReplyDeleteI blog as a reminder to myself to count the joys, the crosses, the everything of my life as a mama and wife, as blessings, as a gift to help me grow more into the person I ought to be. I do it because it gives me strength knowing that even if I touch one other person with my striving to embrace the present moment, perhaps there is a purpose to it. I love to write and like you, consider myself a writer at the core of my being. I don't get many other chances to get my words out there these days. So blogging is my little attempt at doing that. Keep blogging Jenna...I love to read your reflections on life. I especially loved your anniversary post!
