Seven Quick Takes, Vol. 2

1. We're really beginning to make this place feel like home now! I am so excited that Patrick has been putting up our art (as I don't trust myself with a hammer). Meanwhile I sit in a half-lotus on the glider, and frequently interject with "Noo, not there. THERE!" (The reason I am confined to the glider is due to nursing, not laziness, FYI.)

2. On the subject of homemaking, I attacked our library with a vengeance today, sorting Theology into Scripture, Magisterial documents, saint lives, dogmatics and spiritual theology. Then onto philosophy, history, and literature (with equally obsessive sub-categories). My big concern, though, is where to put the "popularizers"? You know, Christopher West, John Eldredge, Rick Warren (cough), and the like? I hate putting them into Theology with the likes of Garigou-Lagrange, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Teresa of Avila, among others.

My compromise? A "Christian Living" section.

Sidebar: while visiting with my sister today, I bragged about my success with my book organizing, to which she said, "The difference between us is that I have a bookshelf. You have a library."

3. Our baby is taking actual, real naps! I mean, like over an hour and a half, twice daily, two days in a row! This trend may not persist, of course, but I am liking it right now.

It helps, I'm sure, that he's discovered his thumb. While I don't want to encourage it when he's older, learning to self-soothe is right up my alley, being a nursing mom and all!

4. Does breastfeeding often make a woman's body temperature sky-rocket? I am so hot, all the time, but particularly whenever I nurse (which, I suppose, makes sense). This little urchin of mine is an oven, and having him so close definitely makes me extra hot in this summer humidity. All I can say is, at least I'm not pregnant in this weather!

5. Normally amazon.ca is my best friend. I pick out a few things I want, drum up the hubby's credit card, and before I know it, my items have arrived. I love the free shipping! And the prices are better than Chapters. Recently, though, I ordered a few books, and their estimated arrival date was the 14th. Now it's the 17th! What's wrong?! I am rather irritated.

6. My own sleep is improving somewhat! I am trying the usual: snack by the bedside and a notebook, so my blood sugar stays up and my mind will quite reeling. Did I say how much I love sleep?

7. I've run out of Quick Takes. So enjoy a Quick Pic instead!

  1. Oh, he is incredibly cute. Funny about the naps as I clearly remember when the twins had napped succesfully two days in a row. It was when you had come to Ottawa en route to the Academy and you and Martha looked after the twins as I went out to buy dave's bday gift at MEC. They had napped well the day before but the success didn't continue the next day and I felt so torn between entertaining guests and figuring out my babies' sleep. Glad to hear that your own sleep is improving - both food and writing help me as well.

  2. Don't worry about the thumb sucking. It is a blessing.
Martha was the only one of my babies who found her thumb and what a boon. It is the biggest sleep-aid going. She sucked it day and night for four years, until the dentist told her she must stop or would have to wear a splint on her thumbs at night.
    She quit immediately. No problems.
