Our newly minted three year old
Happy belated birthday to Isaiah!
Our little ray of sunshine turned three in May and we had the pleasure of celebrating the day with his grandparents and godparents in Nova Scotia.
Gooey takes his cereal very seriously, and is happy to shower his grandchildren with it (figuratively, of course), because they lead dull lives, being forced to eat such mundane things as oatmeal, pancakes and scrambled eggs for breakfast.
His godparents provided the MOUTH-WATERING cake
Happy birthday Isaiah.
Love,
Mommy

First off, cereal with his beloved Gooey.

A birthday greeting from cousins back in Ontario
His godparents provided the MOUTH-WATERING cake
If you can believe it, it was made without gluten, dairy, cane sugar or soy.
My dad, the hater of food-restricted diets, had a second slice that night and said "you would never know" that it was made with substitutions.
He has a fierce love of dress-up
so the fireman suit was a big hit
As was the cowboy costume...
He asked to wear his chaps over his jammies.
Isaiah is known among our friends and family as the "wild" child. It is easy to make the comparison between him and Noah.
Case in point. After coming home from Mass this morning, Patrick asked the boys what they wanted to do. Noah said "just sit here [in the car] and look at my book." Meanwhile Isaiah had already taken off his socks and shoes. He declared, "my wanna stick my feet in the dirt!"
So it's tempting to label the two -- Noah is the "quiet" one, Isaiah is the "busy" one. Noah is a book-worm, Isaiah is rough-and-tumble.
Recently, though, Patrick had taken Noah somewhere and Anna was sleeping. I was getting ready to bake some muffins with the copious amounts of rhubarb we gathered from our garden. As expected, Isaiah asked me if he could help. I watched in quiet delight as he carefully poured, stirred, and diligently followed my directions. A quietness came over him as he thrilled in the experience of getting my sole attention.
It occurred to me that while he and Noah do have very different temperaments, there is definitely some "nurture" impacting Isaiah, too. Because he rarely has received my undivided attention (unlike Noah, who did entirely for two years), he has invented some creative ways to get me or Patrick to notice him.
Yet he is a gentle little soul inside. He's deeply passionate about so many things, he is thrilled to run and play outdoors for hours, he takes great pride in being a "big strong boy" as he 'helps' me carry the stroller into the trunk of the van, and oh!, how he lights up when I notice how sweetly he is playing with his sister.
He has a great sense of humor, and has so many interesting things to say. It's a source of so much joy for me to walk in on him engrossed in imaginative play.
He wants so dearly to be a peace-maker if Noah and I are butting heads.

He intuits a lot.
Of course he is very much a little boy -- active and at times wild.
But beneath the busy-ness there is a heart bursting with love for all.
Happy birthday Isaiah.
Love,
Mommy

I just remember his classic run up the church aisle while Patrick was in Rome. "FREEDOMMMMMMMMM!!!"
ReplyDeleteSo very, very much like Joseph. He is a different boy on his own. As my mom says, "Even negative attention is attention."
