Linking up with the inspiring women at Like Mother, Like Daughter  for an instalment of

{pretty, happy, funny, real}

round button chicken

{pretty}

Or should I say "cute"?

My sweet little boy filling out Valentines to give out to his friends at his little library program. (It was their last class so they were asked to bring them in a week early.)

The Valentines themselves? Also very pretty. Have a look!

{happy}

Well I took so many 'happy' photos this week, you're just going to have to get prepared to scroll a little.

My oldest playing dress-up -- a cassock from the All Saints' costume box, a dinosaur hat made by his beloved (and very crafty) aunt and a knight costume, all in one.

He was a firefighter.

Of course.

While I set about cleaning the master bedroom, the boys sat on my bed and busily wrote. Isaiah (20 months) drew squiggles and Noah (3 1/2) wrote a fairy tale. Well, he got me to tell him how to spell "A Fairy Tale" and that's what he wrote down on a piece of paper.

(It just astounds me how much he's learned and grown this year!

In the fall I was all in a dither because he didn't want to sing his ABCs, which meant he would clearly be illiterate at age 18, and now he's writing -- stealth notes to Daddy, grocery lists, and this week he also wrote out "Our Father who art in heaven" so we could decorate for Lent, he said.

Of course, he can't spell, and he doesn't read yet, but I love seeing progress.)

So even though this photo makes my room look unkempt (they had rumpled the bedclothes by their antics), it really was glisteningly reasonably clean and orderly by the time I was finished in there. You just can't see the closet I was reorganizing on the other side of the room.

After all that hard work, though, Mommy wanted to take a break. So here we are getting ready to read a fairy tale (not Noah's, but one from a book. Although if Noah ever adds to his, I will happily read it to them!).

You'll note Isaiah has a reinforcement sticker on his head. Noah put that on him because they were playing doctor and that was Isaiah's disease (?!).

Oh and a sweet photo of my husband reading to our boys before bedtime (well actually Isaiah had run off to look for a toy before I snapped this).

Do you see his arm around Daddy's neck?
That makes me happy, indeed.

{funny}

Nothing says "happy birthday" like a set of antlers.
We went out for dinner this week to celebrate my father's birthday,
 and my dad was subjected to this bizarre headdress.

 Anyone who knows my father, though, knows he actually gets a thrill from being roasted a little.
And the children thought it was a riot!

 Noah tried it on and Isaiah couldn't stop from laughing and pointing at his brother.

{real}

He's trying to steal his brother's herbal tea while crying,
he has marker streaks on his neck,
and they both are in serious need of haircuts.

But they detest getting their hair cut! I have never brought them to a barber because it seemed like a waste of money, but I am beginning to wonder if it might be worth it just to prevent them from fighting me tooth and nail. Thoughts?

  1. That last picture is my absolute favorite! Ha! Both for Isaiah's face and also for the way Noah looks like he is about 22 years old with his grown up mug :) Cute boys!!

  2. Sweet photos!
    As for hair cuts, we use a buzzer doodle... We got a decent one for about $20 (the cost of a haircut) and use that... Ethan was afraid of it for a few times and now tolerates it while moving his head where I ask. Jack had a tiny trim this week off the back and was fine with it... And Jeff is my perfect client, sitting still and all that. We use short clippers, but you can use longer ones and it comes with instructions! I am sure we have saved a fortune on boy haircuts!

  3. Classic photo with the two brothers & tea cup!
    I finally gave in let my husband take my son to the barber when he was a toddler, not worth the tears (mine) + (I thought the police would be called with the fuss that he would make). He was so petrified at first, then he liked going because it was a 'Father & Son' date, now, in his teens - he only lets me touch his hair. Ha! I'm finally getting my moneys worth with the clippers I had bought 14 yrs ago.
