23 weeks and chuggin'

How far along? 23 weeks, 1 day. While I'm delighted that I'm already past the half-way mark, having my cousin and one of my dear friends give birth in the last three weeks, on top of knowing that my sister's baby will be born a month from today, makes this last stretch seem looooong. I'm hoping it goes by as quickly as the first 20-ish weeks.

Total weight gain: Still haven't gotten back to my pre-pregnancy weight, although I am gaining fairly quickly.
Maternity clothes? I am still wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans (as well as maternity clothes too of course). They're stretch jeans, so that only counts a little, but this is far cry from the last pregnancy, when people were certain I must be having twins; I just looked so big for how far along I was.
Sleep? It's mostly going very well, thanks in part to the Snoogle pillow my parents loaned me (they have one for when one of their oft-pregnant daughters might happen to spend the night at their house. Aren't they thoughtful?!) Alas, I am saddled with absolutely bizarre dreams lately.
Best moment this week: Hearing Noah's new words! He's taken off with talking now, and I love how he says "Tay-tee" for his Aunt Katie. He spent all day talking about her yesterday, so I arranged for us to have supper over at their house simply so he could enjoy her company.
Movement? Lots. So fun!
Gender? I hate this question. Every week my answer will be "I don't know, we're not finding out, and I will happy either way." Neeeeeext!
Cravings? Baby keeps me on my toes -- anything from Cheetos (so not healthy, but very tasty) to BLTs on homemade bread (specific much, Little One?!) to fruit smoothies. I seem to be the only one in the house who enjoyed the latter craving, but Noah and Patrick both were happy to see the arrival of BLTs and Cheetos in our home.
What I miss: Having a midwife. I am still getting used to the idea of having a doctor deliver our baby, but what's weirder still, we have a male doctor. I haven't been to a male MD since I was about 10, and pregnancy and birth are fairly up-close-and-personal experiences between patient and doctor, whether said doctor is a man or a woman! Ugh. So far, though, so good. We like him and he was actually recommended to us by our doula as being the most VBAC-friendly doctor in the city. I guess his approach is, "I'm a man, what do I know about birth?" (Obviously, he knows plenty as he delivers oodles of babies, but the point is, he's not intervention-happy.)
What I’m looking forward to: My niece will be born exactly one month from today! I lieu of that, I am also looking forward to shopping for a little outfit for her. Girl's clothes = sooooo fun.
Weekly wisdom: I don't think I have any.
Milestones: I don't know if this a "milestone" but it is adorable. Last week, Noah and I went to visit my cousin who recently had a beautiful baby girl. He played happily with their older child, his toddler cousin, and seemed fairly disinterested in the newborn's presence. That is, until I got my chance to hold her. He promptly found a doll from the toy box and began to hold and rock his baby. Since that day, he has been continuously talking about babies with me.

I have a feeling he will be a super big brother.

  2. Looking good Jenna! I love last photo you posted...so pretty. Enjoy these days of being pregnant, even when it is hard. Put your feet up, take naps with Noah and just be. You have every excuse to be taken care of and pampered. Enjoy it!

  3. I really, really love that photo of you and Noah (whoops, just typed Norah!) and your respective babies. I, too, imagine he'll be a superb older brother!

And two other random thoughts: I washed, dried, folded and put away all of Baby's clothes today, and came across the outfit you and Patrick brought when Norah was born - SOOOO excited to see another little one wear it!

Second, by any chance is your MD's first name Glenn?

  6. As lovely as ever, Jenna!

Do you know that we are expecting too? Hush, don't tell anyone in Dartmouth - my mom doesn't know.

  7. Thanks, Rebekah. I am liking feeling so good these days.

Erin, I DO enjoy being pampered, and have not only a doting husband, but also my parents and in-laws who think looking after their grandchild in utero is a holy beautiful responsibility (which means they babysit when we need a hand, and feed me tasty food!).

Elena, my pre-pregnancy weight was out of control. I really had gained a drastic amount of weight. Or rather, never lost my baby weight. So the fact that I have negative weight gain with this pregnancy means I am just being a little more normal this pregnancy. if that makes sense?

Jenny. Welcome to my blog. My doc is actually a GP and we are pleased with him. I keep reminding myself that none of this is weird for him, it's ME who has some sort of hang-up. Anyway he is a good doctor so we're happy.

Colin Kerr, best news EVER! I had a feeling you were expecting. I dreamt of Anne-Marie with a baby a few nights ago, and I woke up and thought maybe she was pregnant :D Go me, and my weird dreams! PS You should really tell your mother!
