Humbled by my hubby

I am trying to incorporate the "use what you have" adage into our home.

I have read you can use veggie peelings (of washed vegetables, naturally) to make soup broth. Simply freeze them in a plastic bag and when there's enough, boil them up for broth and compost the leftovers.

I intend to try this.

Also, I miserably stained one of my favourite maternity tops a while ago, and try as I might to remove the stain, it won't budge. I have thus given up and cut it up to make a baby quilt. It seems somehow appropriate to use my former maternity clothes to wrap up the baby.

I find myself being smug about these few efforts to do something a little more frugal, a little more eco-chic, a little more do-it-yourself.

And then, my darling husband asked me for an old pair of nylons that I didn't need anymore. I relinquished them to him, only to find out he was assembling a mold to make his own paper from old paper scraps.

He just lapped me.

  1. I made paper (from fabric) for part of my junior high science fair project. I got the instructions from - you'll hate this! - David Suzuki. ;)

Did you know I have Mr. Suzuki's autograph from when I was about 7?

  2. Okay I actually like some of David Suzuki's ideas, crafts etc. (and I have his autograph somewhere, too! I met him during my first year of university!).

And Jaclyn, why does this not surprise me that you've already done this?! Are you Martha Stewart in ALL THINGS or what?!

Oh yes, and P's paper looked stellar actually. He was pretty delighted with himself.
