"And the word became flesh"

I have returned from my mini blogging hiatus to wish you all a HAPPY SOLEMNITY!
I have been geekishly excited for the Feast of the Annunciation for literally months. Not only is it a welcome break in the middle of Lent, and thus an excuse to eat delicious, evil foods (mmm cheesecake!) but also a beautiful feast day in and of itself.
We're talkin':
St. Gabriel's mystical message to a Virgin that she would bear a SonOur Lady's fiat, bringing about the Incarnation itself
The whole of human history being changed in a single moment as God became Man.
I have been thinking this over, that we tend to say "God became Man." That's true, He did. Yet this conjures up images of a walking, talking, sandal-wearing soulful-eyed Sacred Heart-type Christ.
The problem with this phrase is that it seems to suggest that when the Incarnation took place, God became a grown man.
He became a pre-born child.
The very notion of this gives me pause. As I carry around a lively, beautiful child in my womb, I can't help but wonder what it must have been like for Our Lady to be so intimately connected to the Christ Child. I can safely say that I love my baby. Not in the purely philosophical "doing what is best for him or her" sense, but that I am in love with this little person. Each little movement or tap reveals this child to me in a profound way and I sometimes find myself really looking forward to being alone so I can be alone with my baby.
So as this holy feast day rolls on, I can't help but feel delighted in celebrating the most holy pregnancy that there ever was. May Our Lady, Mother to the Unborn Christ, pray for us!

One last thing:
I must confess part of my excitement leading up to this feast day
has been in anticipation of my maternity leave.
Yesterday was my last day of work!
Thus I can celebrate the Annunciation as a HOUSEWIFE!
I have been looking forward to this day for a long, long time.

Housewife for NOW - a few more weeks and you can add "stay-at-home-mom" (or SAHM) to that glorious title, too! :) It's wonderful, isn't it?
